P1010109Here’s a recipe that was on a postcard we received from American Lifestyle. Thanks to my dad and his whims, fancies, and cravings, he decided that this recipe sounded delicious and it needed to be baked — immediately!

I wasn’t too crazy about the recipe at first, mostly because I’m not a huge fan of blackberries (though we substituted with blueberries and I’m not crazy about those either), but the end result was surprisingly…not bad at all!

While the crisp may not look very appetizing and appears to be a goopy mess with some crunchy stuff on top, it definitely tastes better than it appears. Warm and fresh out of the oven, or cold after sitting in the fridge, this fruity crisp is tasty both ways. If you like apple crisp, then you might want to give this recipe a try sometime. 

Blackberry Nectarine Crisp


Substitute with blueberries if you don’t  have blackberries


  • 3 cups fresh blackberries (blueberries)
  • 3 cups nectarines
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp canola oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Coat a 9 inch backing pan or twelve 4 oz ramekins with cooking spray (or butter). Combine the berries, nectarines, orange juice, and vanilla in a large bowl. Stir gently until well combined and set aside. In a separate bowl, add the oats, brown sugar, canola oil, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until well blended.

Spoon the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish, then scatter the crumb mixture evenly over the fruit. Bake for about 15-20 minutes for individual ramekins, or 30 minutes for a baking pan. The fruit should be bubbling and the crumb topping should be golden brown.

Garnish with a few slices of nectarine or berries on the side, or a spring of mint. Ice cream is always an option as well!
