We’re Back!…Again!

Posted by on Jul 11, 2014 in Miscellaneous | 1 comment

It’s been a while since we last posted…Yep, we’re still alive and kickin’. You just can’t get rid of us, can you? ;) Well, I’m sure none of you are terribly surprised. It’s certainly not the first time that we’ve vanished for weeks on end only to pop back out from under a rock and say ‘Hello, world! We’re still alive!’ For those of you who’ve stuck around, all I can say is…either you’re nuts or you forgot you were subscribed to us. Which, in that case, haha, surprise! Guess who’s back to occasionally poke your inbox with random newsletters? Psst, if you’re not subscribed yet, what are you waiting for? Sign your soul away by filling out the form below (or you can find it in our sidebar) and we promise to shower you with endless amounts of uhm — Something really special. You may have noticed our spiffy new theme. Check out the sliding Featured Photos on the Home page! Snazzy, right? We had something similar implemented in our previous theme but this one…this one is just so much nicer. Everything’s sleek, shiny, and just wow. Even the fact that we had lost more than half our photos when switching themes, which resulted in my spending weeks painstakingly replacing those photos to their proper post locations, has paid off for the current end result. Yea, we love you too. It’s why we do this. (Huge thank you to my awesome friend, Teman Cooke, for suggesting this spectacular theme! I spent a lot of time digging through various options but this one took the cake. Check out his equally amazing blog, T.H. Cooke: A Study in Contradictions. He recently published a must-read novel, To the Water, We Are Gods, which I’m sure you’ll all love.) After spending some more time fiddling with the theme until it was just so, I realized I had no idea where my photos of particular things were. How am I supposed to write posts when I can’t find the proper pictures to go along with it? I can’t write about crazy delicious takoyaki without a picture of said takoyaki. Where’s the fun in reading a recipe about my latest cheesecake masterpiece when you can’t inappropriately ogle that particular cheesecake? Of course, this meant another week or so of organizing my massive collection of photos — photos full of food and places that we promised to blog about but have yet to cover. Photos of recipes, from success stories to miserable failures that I’m too ashamed to share…Erf. >.> With my pictures organized to perfection, I ran out of excuses not to post. But really, each new season on cable seems to bring better and better shows. Watch the first episode and save the rest for later? Impossible. Catch up to the latest episode of a dozen hot dramas through sleepless marathons? Been there, done that, and now officially out of excuses. I even counted the days since our last post, which brings us…here. It’s not that I don’t want to write and bore you all with my endless babble. It’s more along the lines that there are so many things I want to share with you all that I don’t really know where to start. Since I don’t know where to start, why not an overview of everything instead? So here’s a quick synopsis of where we’ve been in the last few years. Some of which we’ve already covered, some which we didn’t fully touch on, and some we failed to mention at all. Till now. 2010: Taiwan & Japan – This is really what started it all. Bored one night while in Taiwan, we...

Long Island Winter Farmer’s Market — January 6, 2013

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Miscellaneous | 0 comments

Happy 2013 everyone! Wishing you all experience more good times than you can count with plenty of good food and company. For those of you who follow us on Facebook, you’ll know that we’ve been busy-busy these last two weeks. After spending our Christmas with family, it was off to trek through the snowy cold of Quebec to eat our little hearts out (look forward to those posts!). Now, we’re back in NY and baking up a storm. Our kitchen’s a complete mess but it smells absolutely heavenly. Why? We’ll be at the Long Island Winter Farmer’s Market this Sunday (January 6, 2013) from 10 am to 2 pm selling our goodies for our fundraiser! Come stop by our table this weekend and help contribute to a great cause to start off your new year.  Visit us at the Long Island Winter Farmer’s Market at: 155 Lowndes Ave. Huntington Station, NY 11746 We’ll be selling matcha shortbread cookies, matcha langues de chat, a super simple variation of our tasty savory palmiers, almond biscotti, carrot oatmeal surprise cookies, pecan thumbprint cookies, and chocolate lollipops! Or, if you can’t make it but would like to donate nevertheless, just click on the donate buttons in the sidebar. ~ AJ ~ P.S. I debated writing an actual post along with this little blurb but decided this was too important to be left as a side note to nommable foods. So I shall be leaving you all in suspense as to what sorts of deliciousness we have planned....

Save the Children & Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Fundraiser!

Posted by on Dec 1, 2012 in Miscellaneous | 1 comment

Tis the season of giving, good cheer, and…fundraising! Have you been spotting Santas ringing bells on street corners lately? Well, don’t worry, we can’t seem to find our Santa outfit anywhere. Instead of ringing and a-jingling, S.S.Munchies will be bringing you a variety of goodies through the months of December and January. From assorted cookies and cakes to the simplicity of jams and chocolate lollipops, everything will be (and is!) completely 100% homemade. No fear of ingesting strange additives and chemicals that you can’t pronounce! We’re hoping to raise $1,000, but since it’s just the two of us, we’re taking baby-steps and hoping to achieve mini-goals as we go. All proceeds will be split between Save the Children and Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.  Save the Children… …is most likely a charity that you’ve already heard of. The Save the Children Fund is an international organization that promotes children’s rights. They help provide relief  and help support children in developing countries. They offer several ways to donate, and if you’d like, you can even sponsor a child for just $28 a month! Cookies for Kids’ Cancer… …is a relatively new 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2008 for pediatric cancer. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is committed to raising funds to support research for pediatric cancer.  There are several ways to give and you can even purchase cookies (and other products) to give away or share with others. But more importantly is getting the name out, so “Be a Good Cookie” and spread the word! So what are you doing exactly? Since we’d like to keep this post short and sweet, we won’t attempt to bribe bombard you with any delectable  photos of baked goods. We’ll simply whet your appetite and let your imaginations do the work! During the months of December 2012 to January 2013, we’ll be offering 100% homemade goodies. What kind of goodies? Almond bark cookies, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate lollipops (including the pretzel variety), and matcha shortbread cookies are just a few!…That we’ve already shared with you before anyhow. As for the rest…well, you’ll just have to wait and see. Hate being kept in the dark? Don’t worry, we’ll be posting up recipes of everything we make for the fundraiser so look forward to it! Yea, yea, about time we got around to sharing. I know. -attempts to look shamefaced- All baked goods, like the few examples we just listed, can be yummy in your tummy for just $1 ~ $3 each.  Again, all of our goodies are 100% homemade with natural (and organic when we can get it) ingredients.  We are also giving away a limited amount of homemade pesto, jams, and fruit butters for $3 (2 oz jar) and $5 (4 oz jar). These jars may sound teeny, but you’d be surprised how much can fit inside and how much enjoyment they’ll bring to your tastebuds! But how do we donate? Jas and I will be toting our goods around with us and baking when we’re not! So just give us a poke when you see us. (FYI: Jas won’t actually be home to participate until the middle of December, so you’ll all have to content yourselves with poking me in the meantime.)  If you’d simply like to donate, check out our shiny new ‘Donate’ buttons in the sidebar! We’ll be pooling all of the proceeds together and splitting it evenly between both organizations, but if you’d like to donate to one specifically we’ll keep it in mind and make sure your money goes to your preferred charity.  There’s the option of donating directly through the official sites as...

Bermuda’s Sights & Delights

Posted by on Oct 20, 2012 in Miscellaneous | 0 comments

Midterms are quickly coming to haunt our dreams at night again, but at least we can look forward to the winter holidays to temporarily ease away the worries of imaginary horrible grades. It’s been a while since we’ve last posted and unfortunately, we don’t have anything new for you…yet. Instead, since many of you have asked about our (far too short) trip to Bermuda this summer, check out the beautiful sights and delicious foods we had!  Also, for those of you who remember the Cookie Swap we participated in last year, look forward to some more awesome cookies being whipped up this year as we’ll be taking part in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap 2012 edition! If you have any ideas or special requests, just leave us a comment (or poke us on Facebook) and let us know. It’s Avocado Time!

Posted by on Nov 3, 2011 in Miscellaneous | 5 comments

Hiyo everyone! Here’s a random post that I just decided to write because of two reasons. 1) I was looking at the avocados on my kitchen table and thinking how much I wanted to eat them (this was a while ago), and 2) How would I eat them if I could? Plus, I just got out from looking at fruit (including avocados) and flowers in  my biology lab.Did you guys know that avocado is the only fruit that is eaten by a carnivore? Interesting….jaguars are the animals that eat them by the way… I find that people either love or hate avocados. I guess it’s a personal thing? In my case, it’s love. Frankly, I can’t understand why some people don’t like them. They’re green, they’re round, they have ginormous in your face seeds, and most importantly, they’re delicious! So, this is what happens when you’re sitting in front of your computer with avocados in front of you. Here’s a few ways I like to eat and use avocados. Go ahead and try them all if you’re bored: eat it plain avocados with salt or pepper sprinkled on top avocados with honey or sugar avocado milk thinly sliced avocado on top of french toast with condensed milk drizzled on top avocado in your ramen! add avocado in your sandwich to spice it up avocado and tuna salad in pita bread guacamole avocado in your sushi and handroll Here’s some tasty sounding options I haven’t personally tried, but definitely will whenever I get the chance: stuffing avocados with rice and vegetables stuffing avocados with crab meat drizzling lemon and lime on top make it into a spicy avocado Mexican salad grill avocados and sprinkle with cheese and tomatoes  avocado icecream DEEP FRIED avocados!! FRIED avocado ICECREAM! (I’m pretty sure this exists somewhere out there) heck, maybe even pour some delicious hot creamy soup into the pit of the avocado and eat it together! Hmm, that’s all I can think of at the moment. Did I miss anything? Oh, and I did try all of the first few so don’t worry, they’re Jasmine approved. Avocados are even good as facial masks and hair masks if you guys aren’t interested in eating them (although I couldn’t imagine how that could be the case). Try some of the options out and tell me how it goes! If you don’t like avocados maybe you’ll change your mind ;) Enjoy! – Jas                                                                                                                                                                                                    Photographs taken from...

Posted by on Sep 29, 2011 in Miscellaneous | 5 comments

Hey everyone!  Can you believe that a year has already passed since we first started up Sisters’ Snacktime? Our grand opening was on August 2, 2010…which means that this anniversary post is long overdue. But! That’s beside the point.  The real objective of this post is that we want to give a big thanks to all of our readers for sticking with us for so long despite the sporadic post rate that my sister and I go by! Right now, we have a grand total of 52 email subscriptions! Considering how often (or not) that we post, I think it’s pretty amazing that we even have readers. I mean really, what’s wrong with you people? Don’t you have anything better to do besides reading infrequent posts that are amateurishly written and photographed? Sheesh. Please don’t leave, we love you and will do anything for your subscriptions! In fact, here! An adorable song from an adorable cartoon about just how awesome cupcakes are! Cupcake Song! Speaking of subscriptions, yes!, Sisters’ Snacktime: Munchies for Two now has a Facebook fan page!…Another announcement that’s long overdue, but they say better late than never! Facebook ‘Like’ boxes have been added underneath our email subscription boxes for the readers who would prefer to follow us on Facebook instead of via their emails. All updates to the blog can be found on the Facebook fan page, though there may occasionally be some quirky commentary from one of yours truly on the fan page that you won’t find here. Once again, a huge thanks to our faithful readers! Comments and suggestions, feel free to share them with us. In fact, if there are any requests for recipes or suggestions of places for us to pig out at…don’t hesitate to tell us about them! =) ~ AJ...

General Update + A bit of London!

Posted by on Sep 20, 2011 in London Eats, Miscellaneous | 3 comments

Hey all! I do not know how time flies by so quickly! I haven’t been able to post in a while due to vacationing in London (yay! more on that later) and….I’m officially a college student!! So just to let you all know, I won’t be able to post very frequently (and there’s not much on campus to post about har har) but keep your eyes peeled because post I will! On another note, I was able to visit London my first time ever this summer and try out a ton of very “english” foods. There aren’t very many foods that can be considered completely “english” though, but my sister and I made sure we got all the bases covered! The top item on my To Eat List was definitely traditional English style FISH AND CHIPS! Oh goodness, I think I fell in love with fish and chips. To tell you guys the truth, I wasn’t even sure what fish and chips were exactly…so for all of you out there who might be confused, it’s basically fried fish with french fries, or as the English say, “chips”. By the way, they call chips crisps, which was very intriguing! Now, I made sure to try the fish and chips of pretty much every restaurant we visited, but my family and I all agreed that the above was the best. We got these babies at the London Tower area (which is beautiful by the way). If you ever visit London, make sure to try the small shop near the gift store with the blue and white Fish And Chips sign! Anyways, why was this store’s fish and chips so much better in my opinion? The fish was light and crispy on the outside and not oily at all. Even more importantly, there wasn’t a fishy smell which a lot of the other one’s had. Plus, drizzling mustard and ketchup on top made it deliciously tangy, which went well with the crispy exterior. The fish meat was fluffy and boneless for me, although that wasn’t the case for my sister. Paired with the crunchy hot fries, the meal was a dream for a hungry tourist like myself. I must say, it was very filling so there was no need for anything else! Have you guys ever been to London? Tell me about your food adventures and recommend some delicacies! Next time, I’ll introduce some of London’s AMAZING Indian food and maybe take you guys into my experience at the famous Portobello Food Market! Enjoy :) – Jas Photograph taken by Jasmine...

Get free Icecream!!

Posted by on Apr 12, 2011 in Miscellaneous | 0 comments

Hey guys! Just wanted to tell you all that its Ben & Jerry’s Anniversary today! Why should you care? Because they’re giving out one free ice cream cone to all who come. Since some people might not be aware of this great opportunity, head over to the nearest Ben & Jerry’s today and you can get free ice cream too. =] At the huge Macy’s near my school, they were letting customers choose from vanilla, chocolate, lemon sherbert, and late night snack. Of course, I immediately asked the worker what a “late night snack” was. Apparently, tons of others had asked the same thing, so he just tiredly handed me a paper that said: vanilla bean ice cream with salted caramel and chocolate covered potato chips. Sounds good to me! The lady who prepared my cone was wonderful and gave me a huge, generous scoop of late night snack. Usually I don’t prefer mixing sweet and salty, but this was an exception. Who knew potato chips tasted so good with(in) ice cream? Anyway, apologies for not having a picture to show you guys. I remembered to snap a picture with my phone after I already took a few licks, but the quality is poor so I’ll spare you the drooling. Hope you guys liked my last minute notification and mini review! –...

Food Ramble Time! (Picture Heavy!)

Posted by on Mar 10, 2011 in Eating like an Emperor - in Taiwan, Miscellaneous | 4 comments

Hey guys! Rest be assured, we have not abandoned this blog! Things have been so busy that I was surprised once I realized it was already March! Wow, how time flies… On another note, I thought I would get this blog back up and running by putting up a simple post of me rambling. About food that is. xD Recently I’ve been craving so many things! Most of them are Taiwanese street food, which is sadly inaccessible for me now. :( The first thing I will do when I return to Taiwan is eat, eat, and eat. I’ll just spend the day shopping and then head over to the night market and eat through all the stalls. Ah, pure bliss. Until then, I spend my time thinking about it, which might be driving my friends crazy. These days when I’m talking to my friends, the conversation somehow ends up on food most of the time. I have no idea how this happens. Just the other day my korean friend was telling me about all the spicy korean food that I had to try, and now I want kimchi fried rice to satiate my cravings. In the meantime, I feel happy looking at the pictures I took last time. Here are some foods I want to eat again: Are you guys hungry now too? The other day my friend treated me to Haagen Daz! So happy. I tried the Belgian Irish Cream flavour with a waffle cone. Yum yum, so good. The lady gave us two huge scoops, which needed heavy tongue licking action to keep from dripping. Don’t you guys think that ice cream tastes so much better in the winter time? Lately, my favorite thing to eat when I get home from school is hot rice straight out of the rice cooker, with an extremely gooey barely cooked egg on top, and with dashes of soy sauce and sesame oil mixed in. Then I break the egg, let the yolk sink into the rice, and mix it all together. SO DELICIOUS. Easy to make, and perfect to fill your tummy. Okay, I think I will finish up this post. Extremely random, but hoped you guys enjoyed! I will probably elaborate on some of the dishes in the pictures in future posts, so comment if you want to know more! – Jas Photographs taken by Jasmine...
